What To Do in a Guilt Tripping Relationship
Regret is
something that can hinder us for life. The guilt trips of others, and why
your actions did not please them, can tear a person down to pieces. Some people
create an endless barrage of guilt, specifically to make others feel bad about
themselves. Does anyone do this to you? It could be a friend, parent, boss,
family member or spouse. It is not a healthy behavior pattern. Verbal abuse, manipulating, and guilt tripping are all signs of mental illness.
Sometimes
the only way to escape their behavior is to remove the guilt tripper from your
life. Unfortunately, they are often ignorant to their habits, and tend to be selfish individuals. You can try to
confront them, but they will probably see it as an attack and not respond constructively.
Confrontation is certainly worth a try – simply explain how their actions make
you feel. But if all else fails, you must move on. If you do not, you will
likely feel drained, buried, exhausted, and as though your life has no meaning.
Why? Because when you succumb to guilt-trippers, your life is no longer your
own. Your life belongs to THEM. Re-claiming your life and your sanity is necessary
if you want to lead a happy, constructive life.
